Five Powerful Mindset Shifts That Can Change Your Life And Career Direction
#2 was a game-changer
I’m entering into my third decade of work.
It’s both sobering and exciting at the same time to say that. I realise I’m more equipped than ever to make the most from the rest of it.
When I look book these five mindset shifts have played a big part in where I am today.
#1 I am more than my job and job title
If I’m honest I spent too much time in my 20s and 30s deriving too much value and self-worth from my job and job title. I thought it would impress people. I thought it would impress me.
I put too much pressure on myself. I thought it would make me happy, and it did for a while, in a way that eating fast food does.
And then it doesn’t. You end up feeling lousy.
It’s called I/R Theory.
I is for identity and R is for roles. We often allow our success or failure in the role we play: father, son, spouse, colleague, Head of.. etc to impact our identity. Our identity is separate and is made up of our beliefs, values etc. It’s who we are deep down. When we keep a Chinese wall between the two, then we make sure successes don’t go to our heads and failures don’t bring us down.
