Welcome to another year and here’s the best thing you can do for yourself this year based on solid psychological research

BE KINDER TO YOURSELF

Here’s why. People who frequently insult themselves when they mess up are not only miserable, they also hate learning, give up on goals, and back down from challenges.

Last year I completed my ILM Master Practitioner in Emotional Intelligence and as Covid caught up with me on Dec 23rd and wiped out all our plans, I had plenty of time to reflect and catch up on some reading.

One of the things I read was some new research from the firm I use for my EQ assessments with clients.

They analyzed data collected from 12,259 people who took the emotional intelligence test and their researchers compared people who habitually chastise themselves (Self-chastising group) and those who don’t (Self-respecting group) on a number of traits and skills.

The results are startling!

Here’s where they differed the most:

(Note: Scores range on a scale from 0 to 100)

SELF-AWARENESS

> Score for Self-chastising group: 48
